My Story |
Becoming a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate
My name is Michelle Simmons, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate practicing under the supervision of Larry Bell, LMFT-S. I provide counseling for individuals, children, teens, families and couples, in Atascocita, Humble, Kingwood, and surrounding communities. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Houston and my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University.
My journey into this work began long before I became a therapist. Before becoming a therapist, I spent 16 years teaching preschool, which is where my love for working with children and families really took root. That experience continues to shape how I show up in my work today, especially with children. I often incorporate play and creativity into sessions, creating space for kids to express themselves, make sense of their feelings, and build confidence in who they are.
My work as a therapist is grounded in a structural perspective, while also drawing from approaches such as solution-focused therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all process. Each person’s story is different, and our work together should reflect that. I work with children, teens, individuals, couples, and families to help them better understand relational patterns, strengthen communication, and find more effective ways of connecting. For me, therapy is at its best when it feels like a genuine partnership built on trust, openness, and a shared commitment to your growth.
Outside of the therapy room, I’m a wife and a mom of two, and those roles are a meaningful part of who I am. They’ve deepened my appreciation for the complexity, challenge, and beauty of family life, and they continue to inform the way I support the families I work with.
It’s truly meaningful to be invited into people’s lives in this way, and I approach that
responsibility with care, respect, and genuine intention.
